15 year-old Filipina performs for Ellen Degeneres. It’s very telling that it took an Ellen Degeneres to recognize the talent of a brown Filipina singer. Apparently, US TV talent scouts are scouring the internet for international performers. I wonder, given the history of mean spiritedness of US TV towards Filipino culture, if sometime later an orientalist example might be shown in another TV talkshow.
